ROOTS & SHOOTS GAUTENG
Happy 2005!
Wishing you a year filled with exciting environmental projects!!
2004 ended on a high note for many of the Roots & Shoots groups. We received wonderful feedback about groups that were involved in Christmas activities. St Mary’s and Holy Rosary Convent made crackers containing Christmas messages. Congratulations to Holy Rosary Convent for making and donating over 900 crackers!! Beaulieu Prep made cookies and cards for Headway. We are sure that the crackers were well received.
NEWS FROM AROUND THE COUNTRY
University of the Witwatersrand
Congratulations to Roots & Shoots at Wits. Maria Fernandez received the Vice-Chancellor Citizen Award for her work with Roots & Shoots and the Eco-drive committee. A just reward for all the effort!!
Unfortunately Maria is returning to Spain. We will certainly miss her positive input.
We wish the team taking over from her –Rebecca, Kiangi, Seitlotli and Celestine as well as Andries and Karen from the Eco-drive committee great success in running the Wits environmental projects!
INDABA PICNIC
We will be holding a Roots & Shoots Indaba Picnic on Saturday, 5 March. We would love all groups to attend so that we can plan some exciting joint projects for 2005. Please RSVP (merlefinch@iafrica.com ) in order to facilitate planning - we need to know how many people from each group will be attending The Indaba will be held in Sandton at The Woodlands Office Park, Western Service Road, WOODMEAD from 9h00 until 12h30/13h00. Maps will be sent out once RSVP’s have been received.
Ideas to consider for discussion at the Indaba:
A Roots & Shoots Concert where each school participates with an activity relating to people, animals or the environment.
The annual Easter Egg Drive - how we can make the 2005 drive a bumper event!!
Water Week, World Environment Day, Arbour Day and Peace Day – how they can form part of the 2005 Calendar.
Christmas activities – how to include Christmas activities into the Roots & Shoots calendar without adding to the end-of-year stress!
